XBOX AND 343 INDUSTRIES SHOWCASE THE PROGRESS MADE SINCE THE FIRST REVEAL OF THE GAME
Halo Infinite
A new batch of screenshots for Halo Infinite has been released by Xbox and 343 Studios, showcasing the visual changes that have been made to the game’s campaign since it was first announced last July.
Like the original gameplay demo seen during the 9-minute gameplay demo seven months earlier, the new screens, released as part of 343’s latest Inside Infinite site, show off the campaign mode running on PC hardware.
Although the demo has been criticized since the last Halo game for its perceived lack of visual improvement, the new screens seem to display more impressive graphic detail, particularly in a demonstration of how the time-of-day lighting system affects the atmosphere of the game.
Halo News Update
Justin Dinges, Campaign Art Lead of 343, claimed in the blog that art production would concentrate on two themes,’ Legacy’ and ‘Simplicity’.
“We really want players to feel like they’re experiencing a game that they remember fondly for ‘Legacy’ (Halo: Combat Evolved), but of course with modernized graphics,” he explained.
“We wanted to make sure that we avoid overly noisy designs and details as far as ‘simplicity’ is concerned, which is a key advantage for the Halo 5 team.
“We wanted to take this new adventure back to its roots with Halo Infinite and create a visually pleasing experience that does not overcome unnecessary complexity where readability and clear artistic composition dominate.”
343 Industries Response
When the first gameplay was seen in July 2020, the visual quality of Halo Infinite was heavily criticized by media, fans, and even major brands, who underlined problems with the design of the game’s art.
343 Industries released an official response to the backlash and told fans they were “very serious about” reviews.
The studio has now committed to delivering “at least” monthly updates on the development of the game, with the latest of these being this new blog.
